Blast radius analysis: what breaks, who cares, and what it costs
A dependency graph tells you what's connected. A blast radius tells you what a failure does — the applications and capabilities degrading, the audiences hit, the revenue exposed per hour, and the earliest SLA-breach horizon, computed from the economics you authored.
What it is
Blast radius is Dependra's core promise made concrete. Start from any component, application, dataset, business process or capability, and Dependra traverses the live dependency graph in two directions — downstream (what breaks if this fails) and upstream (what could cause this to fail) — within a plan-capped depth for bounded, predictable queries.
Crucially, it expands the virtual edges your static diagrams always forget: the auth providers, event brokers and infrastructure zones that silently connect systems. Then it rolls the reachable set up into the language the business speaks.
How it works
- Pick a starting point. Any entity in your estate — a component, application, dataset, process or capability.
- Traverse the live graph. Downstream and upstream, expanding auth, broker and infrastructure edges static diagrams miss, capped at your plan's depth.
- Roll up to the business. Affected applications and capabilities, the audiences and user counts hit, the revenue exposed per hour, and the earliest SLA-breach horizon per segment.
- Read the compliance context. The regulatory exposure of the affected capabilities surfaces in the first five minutes — not the post-mortem.
The outcome
Impact in business terms
Not "service X is down" but the capabilities degrading and the audiences and user counts affected — impact expressed in people and functions.
Revenue exposure per hour Business+
The value at stake, rolled up from the value-stream economics and segment figures you authored. Gated by plan and the ViewRevenue axis.
SLA & regulatory clock
The earliest contractual breach horizon per segment Enterprise, plus the regulatory exposure of the affected capabilities.
